  • OPEL ANNOUNCES 2010 BRAND AMBASSADORS

Tuesday, 27th April 2010: Opel has today announced its continued sponsorship of the GPA’s Gaelic Players Awards for the upcoming season. This is the fifth year in a row for the partnership between Opel and the GPA. Opel also announced its six Brand Ambassadors for 2010 today.

Dave Sheeran, Managing Director, Opel Ireland, who announced the continued sponsorship, said: “We are delighted to be involved with the GPAs Awards scheme once again. The Opel Gaelic Players Awards recognise the enormous commitment and talent of Ireland’s Gaelic footballers and hurlers and provide an opportunity to acknowledge their outstanding efforts. The fact that these Awards are voted by the players themselves makes them even more prestigious. We look forward to an exciting and competitive season ahead and wish all those involved the very best of luck.”

Dessie Farrell, CEO of the Gaelic Players Association added: The launch of the Opel Gaelic Players Awards is always an exciting date on the GAA calendar as it signals the approaching championships, a time of great expectation and excitement for players and supporters. Id like to thank Dave Sheeran and Opel for their continued support of players and our Awards scheme. I would also like to wish all inter-county footballers and hurlers the very best of luck with their respective championship campaigns this summer.

The Opel Gaelic Players Awards commence in May and run monthly to October 2010. Each Footballer and Hurler of the Month will win €1,000 and a much coveted medal. The year culminates in an exciting annual televised GPA Gala Event on Friday, 5th November to announce the Opel Gaelic Teams of the Year for Hurling and Football as well as the Opel Gaelic Players of the Year for both codes. The chosen Footballer & Hurler of the Year will each receive an Opel car to the value of €25,000.

Six of the leading players in Gaelic games were named as Opel’s 2010 Brand Ambassadors today, including:
